Will you be watching the debate tonight?
If you haven’t heard: The candidates for the President of the United States will be debating on TV tonight. I think it is a must watch for all Americans.
Many body language experts have come out to share with you tips for reading people. Some tell you if either candidate is touching their nose, he may not be telling the truth. Please know this is nonsense. How many of you rub your nose during the day because it truly itches? It is not a reliable clue to deception ever.
Another expert talked about how hand talk is a sign of aggression. This expert doesn’t realize when someone is passionate, they also talk with their hands, too. Hand movements can mean many things, and unless you apply context, it doesn’t tell us anything in and of itself.
Shoulder shrug does mean that someone is uncertain, so it is important to match it to what they are saying. Does the doubt make sense?
One thing I believe we will all see a lot of tonight are social (fake) smiles because this is a forum where candidates are trying to win votes. Which candidate will give the most social smiles? Who will smile the most sincere and most often?
One thing to keep in mind is that both of these candidates have been coached on how to behave, and that coaching will be applied tonight. So which candidate comes off as more authentic? That is key!
I am sure there will be lots of clues tonight about who is telling the truth and who is lying, but the problem is people are emotionally invested in their candidate and when I point out the truth and it doesn’t agree with one’s emotional beliefs, I often become the target of their frustration, and frankly, I don’t care to become that– so it makes it hard for me to comment.
If I can find enough things to write about that are non-partisan, I will consider doing so.
I may — no promises— long into FB tonight and share thoughts live as I watch it.
