When I watch the Kelley Cannon interview with ABC’s 20/20, these are my thoughts:

The way Kelley says “Yeah” and “No” are notable to me. It’s the way she inflects that clues me in that she is not being honest. Furthermore, if this was the truth, why isn’t she volunteering to the detective how he beat her? Notice she doesn’t give him any substantiating information. Why? Surely if she was beaten, other people would have seen telltale signs but no one supports poor Kelley.
I think everyone can see that is Kelley in the surveillance video. It shows Kelley will lie whenever it suits her. Also, it is ironic that she talks that Jim had an affair with a “girl” here yet she told the cops at one point he was “queer”. Another inconsistency. Kelley is inconsistent on a regular basis.
Wait a minute. She doesn’t know who did it? In my first point above, didn’t she tell Jim Avila that she suspected she knew who the gloves belonged to? She hinted strongly there that it was one of his stranger sex partners. Why isn’t she sticking to that here? Kelley flip-flops worse than a pair of shoes walking down the street of the same name.
This jury absolutely called this one right. It’s no surprise they returned a verdict in 55 minutes. Good going, jury. This woman needs to be exactly where she is!!
Matt Baker gave a jailhouse interview on June 8 to KXVV.com.
Matt Baker interview with KXVV.com
Karon, an Eyes for Lies reader, and contributor this blog, made a fascinating statement when this first aired. Karon wrote in the comment section:
Matt gives himself away in this interview. He says that her death was either suicide or a mixture of alcohol and meds. He must have forgotten, there was a typed suicide note? If he didn’t type the note himself, and if he was innocent, he should be absolutely certain that it was a suicide. A person doesn’t leave a suicide note with an accidental death caused by a mixture of alcohol and meds. He is just throwing ideas out there and hoping one sticks. He knows he killed her and typed the suicide note.
Superb catch, Karon!
I have analyzed this case since 2008 and Matt Baker gave away many, many clues to his deceit. Click on the labels to read my thoughts on this case. I analyzed the 911 call, the suicide note, and multiple interviews by Matt Baker.
Did you see all the subtle expressions of joy (duper’s delight) that Matt made in the 20/20 show tonight? It was chilling. Matt loved playing people and getting away with it up until the very end, and he continued to show duper’s delight in his interview with Jim Avila after he was sentenced.
Matt is a scary man.

The kidnapping and murder of Maria Bögerl has cause quite a stir in her German community outside of Hamburg. Suspicions and rumors are rampant with fingers being pointed toward Thomas Bögerl, banker husband of Maria. The stories grow stronger every day in spite of attempts by police to quell them.
The quieter the police are, the wilder and more insistent the rumors and speculations become. There are rampant stories, with people saying that Thomas is already being held in the jail.
Markus Ott, Heidenheimer police spokesman, has repeatedly denied these rumors. He has maintained that there is no evidence to incriminate Thomas Bögerl. He calls the stories ridiculous.
Bögerl received a call at his bank in which the caller informed him that his wife had been kidnapped. The kidnapper made threats to kill Maria if all of his demands weren’t met. The kidnapper told Thomas to meet him at a certain location, and he gave him the time and amount of ransom that would be required to save his wife’s life.
With no time to spare, Thomas attempted to gather the money from his bank. He rushed it to the designated drop off spot, however, he couldn’t meet the deadline and he was a little late. The money was never picked up.
Maria’s body was found three weeks later; she had died from stab wounds. She had been left in a field near her home covered with some branches. The area she was found in had been extensively searched by police earlier. Many do not understand how it could have been missed. This has caused doubt that the body was left there originally. This has set off even more suspicion.
There are more stories that Maria was killed two days before her reported kidnapping. This story appears to be false, because almost 20 people said they saw her the night before her disappearance. There has been no official time of death established, though, and that would be crucial in this case, because Thomas claims to have phoned his wife on the day of her kidnapping. There are many unanswered questions concerning this tragic death, with no answers being given. This leads to even wilder stories.
Eyes for Lies spotted this story because of the lack of apparent grief visible on the husband’s face. There was a marked difference in the children’s expressions in comparison to those of their father’s. Even though there could not be a determination of his guilt from this video, it raised some questions and so we are all interested in following this story as it develops.
Do you think there are any valid reasons for the people of Heidenheimer to speculate about the guilt of Mr. Bögerl?
