Andrea Lyon on The Today Show

If there was ever an interesting attorney to see speak, it is the attorney for Casey Anthony, Andrea Lyon. A reader suggested I review Lyon on my story suggestion page, and this suggestion received 39 votes. I have to say that I really enjoyed watching this interview.

However, I am a strong supporter of our legal system and for it to work, I believe that all people, guilty or innocent, deserve to be represented, because if we didn’t represent both sides, we wouldn’t have a fair system.

So I feel it would be harmful for me to share my thoughts on the behaviors, beliefs or thoughts of both law enforcement and attorneys. What suspects do in public is fair game, but for those professionals who defend them, I respect their jobs and support them because we need them.

I do, however, find Lyon absolutely fascinating and I can’t wait to see what happens when she defends Casey Anthony. This is a case like no other. Anthony, in my opinion, is quite lucky she has Lyon. Her track record is stellar on death sentences. That’s why Lyon has earned the title “angel of death row”.

Lyon may be unique, in her retro hippie style and out-of-the-box thinking, but I can tell you she is no dummy.

Commenters have pointed out that Lyon stepped down from the defense team a week ago, however, that doesn’t change my stance that I don’t analyze law enforcement or attorneys. You can read this news at Crimesider.com.

Lindsay Lohan Sentenced to Jail

Actress Lindsay Lohan (L) reacts with her attorney Shawn Chapman Holley following the sentencing by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel during a probation status hearing in Beverly Hills, California on July 6, 2010. Revel sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail Tuesday after ruling she violated probation in a 2007 drug case by failing to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes. , in a Beverly Hills courtroom.

Lindsay Lohan was in court yesterday because she violated the terms of her DUI probation from 2007. She failed to show up for weekly alcohol education classes seven times in December, says the Chicago Sun-Times. She also set off a silent alarm on her scram bracelet that she consumed alcohol after the MTV Music Awards on June 6, according to Celebritology (at the WashingtonPost.com). Lohan and her attorney deny the second accusation and the judge did not consider it a violation of her probation–just a bail restriction.

The co-owner of Right On, an alcohol-education program, took the stand yesterday and told the judge about Lohan’s absences. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the program co-owner… “Marshall said she was aware the program received a phone call from the judge in December saying she wanted Lohan to attend classes each week. But Marshall added she never got a paper copy of the order and did not consider it active.”

Click here to see Lindsay address the court before she was sentenced.

When Lohan addresses the court, she says:

Um, I just wanted to take a minute to say that, um, you know, I…as far as I know, I was in compliance with, um, my program, my Right On programs, and um, you know when I would ask to leave town, they would give me permission to leave town so that’s all I knew, that was coming to me. I wasn’t expecting any special treatment aside from the understanding that I have, I have to provide for myself…

…I know I was ordered to go once a week, um, and I wasn’t missing the classes just to hang out or do anything like that. I was working, mostly, and Morocco, the trip I was working with children and it wasn’t a vacation, it wasn’t some sort of a joke…

Lohan’s tearful plea to the judge was essentially a ridiculous, excuse-filled ramble, if you ask me. She believed she could “skirt” her way out of her responsibilities, again. Thank god the judge didn’t let her get away another time.

When the judge sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail and 90 days for an inpatient rehab, Lindsay is completely surprised. She acts like a little school girl being given a detention. You see her mouth the word, “What?” She can’t believe it is happening to her. I think the only one Lohan is fooling is herself. She just hasn’t wised up to it like the rest of us.

While Lohan cried real tears of self-pity, she hits me as a woman who has gotten her way a few too many times in life and finally needs someone to draw the line and hold her accountable once and for all. I think her sentence was necessary and important. This girl is out of control!

Have you seen Lohan’s history?

Steve Kardian on Horman Developments

I asked Steve Kardian to share his thoughts on the latest developments in the Terri Horman case [Terri offers money to kill Kaine]:

This new development answers a lot of questions that were raised last Thursday, when Desiree Young, with Kyron’s dad and her husband standing behind her, made an emotional plea to Terri Horman before television cameras — the family’s first public statements directed at Kyron’s stepmom since the boy disappeared a month ago.

Last week I mentioned that law enforcement would not share investigative findings, regarding Kryon, with the family unless there was a safety issue clearly identified. This was apparently the case.

Regarding the unidentified landscaper, law enforcement (LE) and the District Attorney’s office will need to corroborate the information the landscaper provided. Two complications are the fact that the landscaper did not come forward with this information when this originally happened six or seven months ago. Even a bad attorney will have a field day with this. Second, we do not know the credibility of the landscaper and or if he has an arrest record or any questionable dealings.

The fact that Terri has lawyered up has removed any opportunity for LE to solicit information or a confession from her.

This is a sensitive case, a national case and an emotional case. LE and the prosecutor have done a good job keeping this close to the vest and they will want to go forward gingerly and build a solid case should this all be true.

Steve Kardian is a 30 year police sergeant, chief investigator and news correspondent, who shares his insight with Eyes for Lies. Read more about Steve here. Thanks, Steve!
