Are you privileged?

When you ask most people if they grew up privileged, I think most people of us will say no.

We all imagine the privileged to be the super wealthy–the types of people who have maids, drivers, chefs, planes, fancy cars and mansions.

But the reality is many of us are more privileged than we realize. And some of us have had to work twice as hard to overcome the lack of privileges that others took for granted.

Have you ever thought about it?

Privilege is not something you earned. It was given to you.

What if you didn’t have the privileges you had or have?  Where would you be life?  Would you be in the same place?  And have the same successes? Would you be just as happy?

Imagine if the privileges you value now were taken from you. They were gone. You no longer felt safe in your expression, to get help or medical care.  How would you feel?

There is likely someone in your life right now who is in those shoes.  Have you ever thought about how it would make you feel?  And how they must feel?

Does this experiment open your eyes and change how you might look at other people?

I think it is profound exercise that evokes strong emotions.  I hope it stirs yours…

Truth or Lie: What would you do?

real friends

If you have a friend who is very despondent about something bleak in their lives (i.e. relative given high-probability-of-death diagnosis, cheating spouse suspected, etc), and they came to you and asked for your support, what would you do: Would you help them cope with the truth and be factual that things are likely not going to end well to help them cope and prepare in a realistic light, or would you lie and comfort them with positive thoughts that “everything will be okay” even though you know negative change is very likely going to affect them?

Think hard about this. What would you really do.

11 Years of Blogging Brings Changes

blog-long

Did you know that I have been blogging for 11 years this October? It’s true! I’ve been sharing my thoughts on public cases and on people in the media for well over a decade!

My blog averages between 30,000 and 60,000 readers a month (depending on the season and news stories available to comment on).

While I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this blog, I have made a decision. I will no longer be evaluating people or cases in the media going forward. I am available for hire should you have a need for my services.

While many of you know that I travel the country training law enforcement from coast to coast, you may not know that I have also been quietly consulting on cases as well.  I have had a profound effect on people’s lives consulting on cases, and I want to do more of it.

I will, however, still keep the blog going from time-to-time. I will share articles of interest related to the topics of human behavior, deception, emotions, emotional intelligence, facial expressions, and personality identification at zero acquaintance.  You are welcome to submit articles by clicking on my Suggest A Topic link (to the right).

Thanks for sharing this journey with me and I hope you stick around!  You will get updates about my future plans here as well.  I am considering offering public classes in the future, and as I have said before, I am still considering writing a book–so check back here for the latest. While things are changing, it’s certainly not an end.

Are You at Risk for Identity Theft?

CV Identity Theft

MSNBC has an interesting article about what can put you at risk for identity theft.  I think the risk factors may surprise you!

Have you recently had a child, gotten divorced or bought a house?  You are at an increased risk for ID theft.

If you experience any of these life events, you might want to monitor your credit more closely.

Rachel Dolezal

Rachel Dolezal gives me great pause, and I cringe when people say we should look at the good she did and ignore the bad.

Rachel is a manipulative person who seeks attention and limelight, and will lie to get it.

She will tell serious lies to get it.

I do not believe Rachel did what she did for the good of society or for the NAACP, but rather it was only to further her own agenda.

She isn’t even taking responsibility for the lies she told, and goes so far as to essentially expresses that she has been treated inhumanely.

Rachel has filed many complaints with the police claiming not only hate crimes, but she also sued the university that she attended in 2002 claiming discrimination based on race, pregnancy, family responsibilities and gender. And I don’t believe at that time she was claiming to be black.

She is simply out for attention and nothing more. Don’t let her fool you.
