Q & A Forum

The news is slow and I don’t have any good stories to share with you, so I thought I’d open this up to a Q&A Forum.  If you have any questions, comments, or ideas — this is your place to share them, and I will try to answer as many as I can.

Understanding Emotions

A reader sent me this video of a woman in Canada who has chickens in her backyard and is facing legal troubles because local legislation says they aren’t allowed.

The reader found the chicken owner’s response odd.  The reader expected the chicken owner, Marianne Kalich, to be upset or frustrated, but instead she was smiling, and asked why Kalich’s response was inconsistent.

When I watch Kalich’s response, to me, it is very consistent.  This is a woman who feels pride for how she handled the situation.  She felt she was a reasonable neighbor asking kindly for approval before she got the chickens. She also knows she keeps the chickens well cared for (so there is no smell) and that she hasn’t harmed anyone (in her mind–I’m not here to debate that).   Hence it is apparent that she sees the legislation as ridiculous.  This is why she is smiling and it makes complete sense.

Mady and Cara Gosselin

This is truly an awkward video to watch with Kate Gosselin and her twin daughters.  I don’t think you need any special ability to see Kate is completely inconsistent in this video, and is being very domineering and controlling.

You can’t help but feel bad for the girls to be put on the spot like they are here.  I was glad to see Savannah Guthrie call her out on it!

Anthony Bosch Talks to 60 Minutes

Do I believe Anthony Bosch in this interview?

My answer is this:  for the most part, yes.

Bosch, however, doesn’t seem to struggle crossing lines and doing things that are illegal, so it doesn’t mean I find him “trustworthy”, but in this interview I think he gets about as close as he ever will about the truth, and shares some excellent information about Alex Rodriguez.

Do I believe Rodriquez has doped?  I do.

Do I believe that doping is a problem in professional sports?  Yes, I do.

5th HP Hard Drive Failure

I have owned an HP TouchSmart computer (sleek looking but it ended there) that has repeatedly had hard drive failures. Today was my 5th –yes 5th–you read that right, and last one!  I averaged a hard drive failure every 12 months.  Thank you, HP!

I managed to get HP to replace them through multiple calls to corporate, thankfully, but the joy was always short-lived.  It ALWAYS went on the crash again. The last replacement was January 9, 2012. Two years later and I am here again for the fifth and last time.

I”m finished!

This time, luckily, I am running two backup drive and hope they captured all the data I have on my hard drive. I just installed the second one two weeks ago!  Whew.

I was having keyboard issues the past few weeks, which I managed to resolve this morning, and then upon a reboot this afternoon, nothing worked.  Windows tried to launch and couldn’t. The PC tried to start and said there was a failure to try to do a recovery.  I tried three recoveries and nothing happened.  Then I ran a system check and up came this error.  The dreaded hard drive failure error.

Off to buy a new desktop PC. Any recommendations are most welcome.  I know many people swear by Apple, however, with my clients primarily on windows, I don’t think it is a wise move for me.

Bear with me now as it will take some time to get my office up and running again. I will be online on my laptop in the meantime but I have a lot of work to do to get things back to where they were.
