Jodi Arias Case Finally Going to Trial

(Video no longer available)

For those of you who have followed my blog for a while, or who have attended my law enforcement training classes, you may remember the case of Travis Alexander and Jodi Arias.

Travis Alexander’s body was found shot and stabbed 27 times by his friends five days after his murder. Arias claimed it was two masked gunman that came into Alexander’s apartment and that she managed to get away and had nothing to do with it. yet ironically never called to get Travis help. Yes, that says it all, doesn’t it?

When you watch Jodi Arias talk to reporters, she not only smiles all the time, as she did in her mug shot, but she is emotionless as can be, which reveals a lot about Jodi Arias.

I don’t think it will take a jury very long to get to the truth in this case.

Thanks, KC, for the update!

Unexplained Dizziness

693 - Ripple - Seamless Pattern

I went to the walk-in clinic this morning because I am experiencing dizziness.  It started the night before last and while I was not myself yesterday, what hit me last night troubled me enough to see a doctor this morning.

I awoke last night at 4:00 a.m. and felt really dizzy so I sat up to get focused.  I started to look at the time which is projected onto the wall by my alarm clock, and when I did, I couldn’t get the time on the wall to hold still. It was as if I was in a rocking chair rocking wildly, and the time was moving up and down in four-foot spans.

It was unsettling to say the least.

I closed my eyes a few times and it managed to slow down. I could look at the clock again, but as I closed my eyes, they seemed to be moving very annoyingly under my lids without my control.  Don’t ask me–I have no idea–that’s just what it felt like.. It was to the point I could not sleep.  After an hour or so, things subsided and I fell asleep.

Today I am unsteady.  At the doctor’s office they had me try to walk a straight line, and I had trouble doing it.   Thankfully I didn’t drive there.

The nurse looked at my ears because I have a bad ear which has issues, but she ruled my bad ear out–it looked good.  But my other ear appeared to show some potential of bubbles in the ear canal, which could be fluid.  So she said that could be the cause though she isn’t sure.  I’ve had a lot fluid and an infection in my other ear and never knew it, so would this ear make me feel different?  I’m curious.

The nurse gave me a few steriods to try and if that doesn’t stop this, she told me to go to the ER.  I thought that was strange.  Why the ER I asked. I’d prefer my doctor, but I suspect I won’t be able to get an appointment quickly if I need it.  She concurred.  Then she explained the walk-in clinic wouldn’t be able to do anything else for me hence that is why she made that recommendation.

Bear with me — I hope to be feeling better soon!

Royal Hoax DJs Speak Out

Many of you have asked me what my thoughts are on the royal hoax situation. Most specifically people want to know if the two DJs are truly sorry for what happened.

While most people see that Mel is sorry as she clearly wears it on her face, many people are questioning whether Michael is sincere, too.

Michael is harder for people to read because he is showing a mix of emotions of both subtle anger and subtle sadness.

In this clip above, Michael says, “We both found out about the same time and I think it was…” He stops talking.  He clearly pauses, and we see him take a deep breath, and turn his head away.  As his head is turned, we clearly see tension and a frown as he is fighting to hold back his emotions here–emotions of sadness.

In the full video for A Current Affair, Michael displays signs of anger as well.  He could be feeling anger for a variety of reasons, which I can only speculate about.  In the full interview, Michael does say to us that he is still trying to process what happened.  I don’t think anyone expected this outcome, which makes it all the harder for everyone involved.

I read one article that said according to Australian law, the radio station was required by law to get consent from the nurse whose voice they recorded.  If that is true, clearly, someone at that this radio station dropped the ball.  But this case goes way beyond Australian law and delves into international ethics, and that’s an entirely different discussion.

Here is a prank that I think is truly mortifying and could have caused some a true heart attack.  Watch the facial expressions on this one.  Youser!!

Scientific America: What’s in a face?

Scientific America has a fascinating slide show on illusions of the face and neuroscience. Check it out. The picture to the left corresponds to the third slide and the one I find most perplexing!

Aude Oliva and University of Glasgow researcher Philippe Schyns created this illusion by producing hybrids of two images.  When look at it close up, it is dramatically different than when you look at it far away!

Check it out and enjoy!  Thanks, Janie, for the heads-up on this!
