Why Don’t You Write About Casey Anthony?

Several readers have been asking me to review Casey Anthony. They say there is ample audio of Casey out there, so why don’t you review her?

The reason I haven’t reviewed Casey Anthony is multi-fold. First, I don’t think you need “Eyes for Lies” to see that Casey Anthony is lying. I am nearly certain that 99% people out there do not believe Casey Anthony.

Her biggest give away that she is lying? The facts that she supplies simply do not add up. It doesn’t take any special talent to see that because if she was honest, people would be standing up to vouch for her, but no one with any credible evidence has done that once.

Second, I typically choose to write about cases where public opinion is truly at odds, and where people aren’t sure of the truth. At that point, I think my opinion becomes more interesting and valuable.

For me to just restate that Casey Anthony is lying because the facts don’t add up, and to provide a handful of other clues doesn’t provide much of anything for anyone. I precisely reviewed Cindy Anthony early on because I saw people attacking her, and I felt my opinion and insight might open people to a different consideration.

Do I hear clues to Casey Anthony’s deception in the audio tapes? I do. Is it anything earth shattering? No. What I hear are tone-of-voice and inflection clues that stand out in the few samples I have listened to. When Casey Anthony, for example, was asked the last time she talked to Caylee, she answers with the word “noon”. If you listen to that word, you will her Casey Anthony say the word inflecting her voice more as a question instead of a statement. It’s little things like this that I don’t think are valuable to anyone for me to commit an hour or two of my time to write about.

So there you have why I haven’t written about Casey Anthony. If I believed it would be valuable and helpful for people, I absolutely would do so. But right now, I don’t think I would do anything for anyone by me simply restating the obvious.

The Staircase

People have been asking me for my opinion about the Sundance documentary, The Staircase, for several months now. It wasn’t until recently that I realized while I hadn’t seen the documentary, I did know about the case! Dateline covered the story back in 2006 and I saw Michael Peterson speak extensively at that time (the show was titled: Death at the bottom of the stairs), and with that, I can tell you that I did not trust Michael Peterson when I watched him tell his story.

Unfortunately, since it has been so long, I am unable to recollect the details about why I feel the way I do, but after seeing this clip below I do remember thinking Peterson was a brilliant man–a brilliant man who got too confident in his abilities to manipulate the truth.

Peterson’s cockiness comes blaring through on this video. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think Peterson was a commenter on some event rather than on his own murder trial. His emotions and behavior are flat out-of-line with a man who is being wrongly accused.

Peterson says he understands the prosecutor wants to win.

What?

Would you understand that the prosecutor wants to win at all costs–disregarding the truth–if that meant you would spend your life behind bars?

No innocent man would ever understand others who disregard the truth at their expense. It’s plain old nonsense, and just an attempt to by Peterson to get people to “think” he is a reasonable guy. It’s pure manipulation by a man who loves to impress others by his intellect. It’s just this time, he wasn’t as smart as he thought he was.

Office Emails Full of Lies?

New research suggests that we are much more willing to lie when we type rather than when we write things out with a pen. Who knew?

Do computers make us feel more removed than ever before? Do they make us feel protected like we have a shield in front of us? What do you think?

Can you help me?

I got notice this weekend that a woman from the U.K. decided to use my name on the Websleuth forums.

eyes for lies's Avatar

I thought I had an account on websleuth but it would not let me sign in, so I created a new one called “eyesforlies”, but websleuths has rejected me.

I kindly ask websleuths to talk to this woman to tell her that many people discuss my blog on their forums, and to please ask her to consider another name as it will only cause her, me, and you my readers headaches. Websleuths has ignored my request and at this time, I am unable to reach this woman because I can’t get her e-mail as I do not have a websleuth account.

I know many of my readers have a websleuth account. I was wondering if you guys would ask her kindly to reconsider, or ask her to contact me so we can work this out. You can find her here.

She is the first person in four years to use my name and I think it will cause everyone confusion. People will likely think it is me posting when it is not. Ironically she is posting in the same forum where people have been discussing my blog.

Just so you guys know in the future if I post anywhere I will use my eye logo as my avatar.

Hopefully this woman will reconsider the name and see the confusion it will cause. That is all I am asking for!

Many thanks for your help in advance! ~Eyes
