Casey Anthony Indited on 1st Degree Murder

Casey Anthony was arrested today on first degree murder charges… (I did not write about Casey Anthony).

(CNN.com) A Florida grand jury has returned a seven-count indictment charging Casey Anthony with first-degree murder in the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter, Caylee.

…Lawson Lamar, the state attorney for Orange County, Florida, said the first count is a capital charge — which could carry a penalty of life in prison or death. She was also charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of providing false information to police.

Did you see the video of George Anthony today as he spoke outside of the courthouse? It was really gut-wrenching. His emotions tugged at your sleeve. They socked you in the gut. They were raw and agonizing. I can’t imagine having to testify against your own daughter.

In a poll back in July, 48% of people polled said they did not believe Cindy Anthony was honest. They believed she was hiding information about Caylee. I’ve always believed Cindy Anthony, and still do to this day.

The July poll (above) was devastating to see because people were really hard on the Anthonys as if it was their fault that Casey Anthony was a pathological liar, or worse, a psychopath. I don’t think you can create a sociopath. I think people are born that way. Worse, if a child has no conscience, how do you teach them right from wrong? How do you punish them? I just don’t know how people can blame the Anthonys. They are living a parent’s worst nightmare.

My heart goes out to the Anthony family, and I just have to ask again:

I personally think that Casey Anthony was jealous of Caylee’s relationship with her mother, and left home to spite her mom. She figured by removing Caylee from her mother’s life would be the ultimate payback. I can’t quite imagine that she killed Caylee as a result, but it sure seem to be pointing to that as horrific as it is to write that.

What a tragedy.

Why Don’t You Write About Casey Anthony?

Several readers have been asking me to review Casey Anthony. They say there is ample audio of Casey out there, so why don’t you review her?

The reason I haven’t reviewed Casey Anthony is multi-fold. First, I don’t think you need “Eyes for Lies” to see that Casey Anthony is lying. I am nearly certain that 99% people out there do not believe Casey Anthony.

Her biggest give away that she is lying? The facts that she supplies simply do not add up. It doesn’t take any special talent to see that because if she was honest, people would be standing up to vouch for her, but no one with any credible evidence has done that once.

Second, I typically choose to write about cases where public opinion is truly at odds, and where people aren’t sure of the truth. At that point, I think my opinion becomes more interesting and valuable.

For me to just restate that Casey Anthony is lying because the facts don’t add up, and to provide a handful of other clues doesn’t provide much of anything for anyone. I precisely reviewed Cindy Anthony early on because I saw people attacking her, and I felt my opinion and insight might open people to a different consideration.

Do I hear clues to Casey Anthony’s deception in the audio tapes? I do. Is it anything earth shattering? No. What I hear are tone-of-voice and inflection clues that stand out in the few samples I have listened to. When Casey Anthony, for example, was asked the last time she talked to Caylee, she answers with the word “noon”. If you listen to that word, you will her Casey Anthony say the word inflecting her voice more as a question instead of a statement. It’s little things like this that I don’t think are valuable to anyone for me to commit an hour or two of my time to write about.

So there you have why I haven’t written about Casey Anthony. If I believed it would be valuable and helpful for people, I absolutely would do so. But right now, I don’t think I would do anything for anyone by me simply restating the obvious.

Robert Murat: What are you thinking?

A reader asked me my opinion on Robert Murat last week, and kindly provided me with some very good video links.

I was always curious about Robert Murat because I never saw him speak, but he spoke publicly in late July. Here is his interview. You can watch him on video, or read the transcript which I also provide (below).

Did you know that Murat has been cleared of his suspect “arguido” status like the Kate and Gerry McCann?

Murat wants arquido explanation
BBC News

Murat:
I would like to know … ah… why… um… uh… I was made an arguido…ah..because ah, sincerely, I don’t understand I… why I was made an arguido. Um…yeah, I would like to find out. I would like to find out.

Reporter:
Would there be satisfaction or anger… (inaudible…if you understand this please send me the text).

Murat:
Well, I can’t really answer that because, ah, they may have, …they may have had, um…………they may have felt, should I say, that…that there was a reason to do it, and if there’s a justifiable reason to make me an arguido, um, then… I have to look at it and be sensible about it. Um, it doesn’t help in anyway shape or form, me, um, here, 14 months down the line, ah, still an arguido, but that is the law of Portugal. Now this happened in Portugal and as much as we do not like how the legal system works in Portugal, this is their legal system and they are doing their job.

Read moreThis interview is a real hair-raiser for me. The day I saw it, I had to get up and walk away. It really bothered me.

Five days before the date of the above video (and transcript), Murat won a lawsuit against the press for libel, and spoke out. He said “The newspapers in this case brought about the total and utter destruction of mine and my families life, and caused immense distress. Notice how he reads from a script?

This makes absolute sense if Murat is a victim here, and was unjustly looked at for a crime he didn’t commit.

Fast forward five days (in this video), Murat confirms he is still being looked at as an “arguido” though news was already circulating that he would likely be cleared in the near future. With that, Murat tells us he wants to know why he was made an arguido.

Naturally, we should expect the same response in this video as when Murat talked about the libel suit. After all, if the police inaccurately labeled him an arguido, this is what caused the media frenzy, and ultimately what would have caused the destruction of Murat’s life, and where his deepest wounds and anger would reside.

With that, we should see a man who is feeling violated, misunderstood and unjustly treated. Is this what we see when we watch Murat speak here?

Absolutely not.

What we see, instead, is a man who is enjoying the spotlight. You’d think in this interview that Murat was sitting down for an afternoon tea, and not a serious conversation about how his life was ruined. He is enjoying speculating and bantering about this whole scenario as if it had no implications for him, yet he readily acknowledges he is still a suspect. Look at how he smirks and grins.

More importantly, we don’t see any distress, or feelings of violation. We don’t see anger for all the pain he has supposedly had to endure. We don’t see a hint that this is a man who was wrongly looked at, put under the microscope, called a suspect and had his life destroyed as he says himself.

I am flabbergasted to say the least. His behavior is a complete contradiction to the circumstances that he wants us to believe here. It is totally different than the script he read out to the media after he won his libel suit, but it shouldn’t be.

It’s one thing not to be bothered by the entire frenzy and to ignore it because he knows he is innocent, and that the police couldn’t possibly have anything on him. It’s quite another to tell us it devastated his life and to go after the press, but to then turn around and act like it was no big deal, and entertain that if the Portuguese police had reason to call him a suspect that they are just “doing their job” and that he should be “sensible” about it, is absurd.

It’s flat out pompous.

If the police inaccurately labeled you a suspect, would you ever entertain such nonsense?

I can’t believe I am even seeing this arrogance.

Is that how you would feel if you have been wrongly looked at as a suspect for an entire year? After the police searched your house multiple times? After your life was supposedly ruined, and the media trashed your name around the world?

If shoddy detective work destroyed your life, was inaccurate or faulty, I can be 100% confident in saying that you’d never go there. It defies logic. It’s like asking the devil to take a closer look at you and beat you, unjustifiably, just one more time.

What injured man does this? Is Murat really a victim here?

Look at this sentence:

I can’t really answer that because, ah, they may have, …they may have had, um…………they may have felt, should I say, that…that there was a reason to do it…

When you watch Murat speak here, he is talking naturally up until he says the words “they may have…” At that point, something stops him. You can clearly see his thought process stop and hesitate, and then he switch gears.

Was Murat actually thinking the police may have had reason or evidence to call him a suspect? Is he curious because he wants to know what they have, knowing they haven’t had enough to charge him in 14 months?

If there is one person on this earth who should never have doubts about Murat’s innocence, it should be Robert Murat himself. Instead he is playing the “What if game…” with us.begging us to look at him closer.

It gives me the chills, that’s for sure.

It’s a cockiness at a level that I don’t recall seeing before. It’s downright arrogant and flippant, like someone who thinks they are smarter than everyone.

Has Murat outsmarted the system? It sure makes you wonder…

Josephine Frenna

Josephine Frenna went missing on August 21, 2008, and was found dead three days later, yet her family says Frenna didn’t swim.

“Josephine wasn’t a water person,” family friend Steve Stabile told the Herald. “She wasn’t one to go swimming on the beach. She hated the sand. She wouldn’t even put a toe in the swimming pool.” (Fox News)

The day after Frenna disappeared, she and her ex-husband were to appear in court. Frenna had a restraining order against her ex-husband, Gerardo Di Marco, and court records show she called him “violent” and “dangerous”. Frenna said she and her 13-year-old son had feared for their lives.

Yet in a twist, Frenna’s belongings were discovered on the beach (sandals, towel, keys to her condo) in front of where she lived by either a building worker or a woman on the beach (reports vary), and nothing seemed out of place in her condo.

Police are saying that there was no evidence of trauma to Frenna’s body, but they aren’t ruling out foul play.

With that, if you see Gerardo Di Marco talk about his wife and her disappearance, please let me know. I’d like to see Di Marco speak.

“Detectives have not determined whether the drowning was an accident, or even how and where Frenna got into the water. They’re awaiting surveillance video footage from buildings near her condo at 4020 Galt Ocean Drive, and toxicology results from an autopsy, said Sgt. Frank Sousa, Fort Lauderdale police spokesman.
