Joran van der Sloot Confesses to Natalee Holloway’s Murder

Joran van der Sloot has finally confessed to killing Natalee Holloway in a proffer eighteen years after her murder.

He pled guilty earlier this week to trying to extort $250,000 dollars from Natalee’s mother, Beth Holloway.  Be warned, his confession while brief, confesses the bare minimum, and is stone-cold chilling. He lacks any normal emotions and clearly has no remorse or regret: classic behavior of a psychopath.

You can listen to his confession here.

I never believed Joran van der Sloot from day one, and shared the boatloads of clues he left in his interviews.

I’ll provide links to those analysis below.

Were you following me when I wrote about Joran?

Van der Sloot’s confession is missing a lot of detail, if you ask me, but it likely alludes to the basic truth: a violent attack due to rebuffed sexual advances.  You don’t tell a psychopath no.

Van der Sloot also killed Stephanie Flores for rebuffed sexual advances as well in Peru.  He admitted to choking Flores, and I suspect that occurred with Holloway, too, sadly. I suspect he used it as a tool to get compliance for his needs, as horrific as that is to think about before killing these women.

He also creepily paints Natalee as an aggressor to his advances in his–what I would call–an edited confession.  I don’t believe for a minute that she got violent with him first by kicking him in the groin for making sexual advances, as he says. He likely choked her first, if she kicked him at all and it was likely a last ditched effort to get away–realizing she was in life-threatening trouble, sadly.  The truth can be so dark and painful to think about.

Do I think he only went into the water up to his knees? I question it: Would that carry a body away with certainty?  That seems questionable to me just on logic, but maybe the Aruba sea has deep drop offs in that location. I don’t know.

We don’t have the whole story here, and never will sadly. Not with a psychopath like Joran.

So this confession?  In my eyes, it’s a whitewashed version and told in a way that still protects Joran. He doesn’t want you to see all of him, still. But he at least owns it for Beth Holloway. I think she needed that to move on.

Looking back at what I wrote over a decade ago is also very chilling to read it now knowing his confession.

You can read my analysis from the Chris Cuomo interview in 2006 here. Or you can browse through all the posts I did over the years on this case by clicking here and here.

My heart goes out to the Holloway family to have to endure this psychopath for so long. Hopefully, they can move on with the lovely memories of Natalee, and find some healing, if that is possible.

Beth Holloway Meets Joran in Peru

This is a fascinating video sent to me by Steve Kardian. In it, we see Beth Holloway meet with Joran van der Sloot in the Peruvian prison in hopes of getting answers as to what happened to her daughter, Natalee. Peter de Vries from the Netherlands appears to have arranged this for his television show.

When Joran first comes in, you can see he is extremely nervous. He is ghost-white nervous. He is so nervous, he can’t take his eyes off of Beth Twitty. Once Joran hears what she is talking about, he calms down some.

Joran tells us it is hard for him to talk to Beth and says it is not easy. I believe him here. He struggles to get the words out. Then he relaxes more as he realizes he has the upper hand in the situation and he takes control. He compliments Beth and I believe he truly means it. He DOES know Beth has a good heart. Psychopaths can sniff that stuff out a mile away. That’s how they find their victims. And then Joran tests Beth by saying he hopes he can have time to think about what he wants to say.

When Beth doesn’t give an ultimatum, Joran wins, again. He escapes the hot seat.

At that moment, my heart sunk.

Beth should have been coached to say, “Listen Joran. You don’t have time. The prosecutors have said you can have this deal today and only today. Either you confess the truth now or its over. If you lie again, you won’t get a second chance –instead you will face harsher consequences. I can give you 5 minutes to put your thoughts together. You CAN get a deal, Joran. This is in your best interest and my best interest. You have to do this. Save both us. Too many others have been died because of this. Today is the day to end it all and get closure — for you and for me. I hope you’ll take it — this is what we are offering. The prosecutor is outside waiting. Let me know your decision. After 5 minutes, the deal is up.”

But Beth spoke as a mom in need of answers, as a truly caring and emotional individual who wants closure. She did talk from the heart and that heart didn’t soften Joran one iota! Joran wasn’t about to do it. He tells us he wants to write her. What he wants is to think about what is best for him. Joran won’t be put on the spot if he doesn’t have to be and he managed to get out of it.

At the end, Joran gets a kick out of the candy bar and about meeting Beth. He has a genuine grin on his face and he seemed to enjoy it as he talks to her when he leaves the room. He loves being deemed important to the point it is absolutely sickening. I think he will revel in meeting Beth, as sick as that is to write.

My heart goes out to Beth. She deserves answers, but Joran won’t give her anything unless he believes it is in HIS best interest, which at this point, he wasn’t convinced.

Jawbone Found on Aruba Beach: Is it Natalee?

WASHINGTON - JUNE 08: Beth Holloway participates in the launch of the Natalee Holloway Resource Center on June 8, 2010 in Washington, DC. The non profit resource center was founded by Holloway and the National Museum of Crime & Punishment and was created to assist families of missing persons. Aruban investigators reportedly have a jaw bone that is being investigated at this time that was found on a beach near the Phoenix Hotel, which Joran van der Sloot previously mentioned. They aren’t saying that it is human yet, but if it is (which I think they would know), they will be running DNA tests. Read more here at CNN.

Is this finally Natalee’s body?

We can hope.

Thanks, Keith!

We get to see Joran van der Sloot talk to a Dutch reporter in this video for the first time since Stefany Flores’ murder. It is intriguing as the reporter says.

The first thing I notice is how much more down to earth Joran is at first. He says he feels guilty for everything he said in the media since 2005, “yeah”, but that flash of reality quickly disappears as Joran continues talking. His arrogance and ego swiftly take over — he just can’t resist himself.

Quote of the Day:

Egotism (or arrogance) is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity.

“I was doing a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing and mostly going out all the night and sleeping all the day,” he continues with an arrogant smile.

We know immediately by his facial expressions and demeanor here that his sincerity is zip zero.

Read moreJoran still thinks he is smarter than everyone else, and he can dupe the world, but he does a horrible job of it, and everyone including their brother can see it in this interview. You don’t need me to point it out.

Joran is smug. He smirks and smiles when it makes absolutely no sense. If he is feeling remorse and guilt as he says, his emotions, facial expressions and body language should support his speech, but instead they betray him.

Joran doesn’t answer questions. He shrugs his shoulders when he makes statements that he wants us to believe he is confident about, when clearly he is not.

Joran is honest, however, when he says, “I have always been, uh, how do you call it, uh…um…impulsive. I’ve always been, eh, action right away, make a decision immediately and ah, and not think about what the consequences are.”

Wow.

Joran said something truthful to get us to buy into his fabrications…a common trait of a liar. It’s a clever method to make you question your stance, as most people believe we are all or nothing: Honest or a liar, and not a combination of the two. Its uncomfortable for us to hang in both realities that someone is honest and lies at the same time.

Watch Joran talk about how bad he feels for the Flores family. He couldn’t be gloating anymore as he talks. It’s sickening. He stumbles as he makes up his rhetoric.

He says, “I feel really that bad…uh… that her family had to lose a daughter, and it really… does hurt me (shoulder shrug), and i think about it all the time.” His behavior, body language and emotions leak his true feelings. When he shrugs his shoulder here, its like he is thinking “What should I say, uh, I don’t know…yeah, this…” Truly he does not speak from his heart or with any sincerity.

Joran says with laughter, “A web of problems, so I created all of them myself. Yeah. I have to deal with it now…deal with the consequences.”

This statement is so telling. No innocent man locked up in prison for a murder or TWO that he didn’t commit would say this, if they were being railroaded, as Joran so wishes we would believe–even if he did make poor choices. This sentence is all you need to see him say to see the truth.

Go back and read my first review of Joran on ABC after Natalee Holloway disappeared. Check out the comments, too. It’s fascinating to read. A lot of people questioned me and were not sure that body language and words could betray a liar back then. That was long before Lie to Me. Now with all the developments in the Joran case, everyone can see Joran is a classic pathological liar and a psychopath. I wonder what my naysayers from back then would say today?
