Final Witness: Hans and Nina Reiser

Did you catch Final Witness this week? The show was titled What the Boy Saw and was the season finale.  They profiled the story of Hans and Nina Reiser.  Nina went missing in 2006 in Oakland, California, and ultimately her husband, Hans, led police to her body after he was convicted of first degree murder in exchange for a reduced sentence.

The show gave the title because police believe that

Jailhouse Interview with Hans Reiser

Here is a video of Hans Reiser talking about leading the police to Nina’s body, and why he lied in court about her being in Russia. Thanks HP for the link!

Clearly, Reiser is hoping his apologies and softness in demeanor in this ninth hour before sentencing will influence his sentencing hearing.

I don’t think he helped himself here in anyway whatsoever. Do you?

Hans Reiser Leads Police to Wife’s Body

Yesterday afternoon, with hopes of getting a dealing with prosecutors, Hans Reiser revealed where he buried Nina.

Hans Reiser also admitted that he and his wife fought, and that he strangled Nina.

The body was less than half a mile from the home on Exeter Drive where Reiser lived with his mother, and where Nina Reiser, 31, was last seen alive Sept. 3, 2006.

In the article, it also mentioned that a cell mate of Reiser testified during the trial that Reiser raced to the television screen when a news report came out that a body was found in Oakland Hills, and that he was visibly relieved when he heard it was the body of a black man.

You can read more of the story here.

Today I will officially move the Hans Reiser case to “Dishonesty Caught To Date Before The Truth Was Known”.

Thanks for all the tips about the breaking story!

May Nina Reiser’s family finally have closure.

Thanks to Asai for sharing this breaking story. Read more here.

I guess that would definitely tell us the truth in this case, and leave no more doubts.

Hans Reiser Found Guilty

I am not surprised by the news that is out today that Hans Reiser was found guilty of murder last night. I was a little surprised they came back with first degree murder.

I was really surprised by the people who voted at Wired.com, who thought that the prosecution didn’t prove the case. I have some astute readers: You guys saw it pretty clear. Eight-eight percent of you thought he was guilty, too, after seeing what came out in the trial.

Knowing people, I think Reiser’s contempt in court really hurt him with the jury. He clearly showed them he was unable to contain himself, and follow rules–which doesn’t bode well for a murder trial. I think he may have made it easier for the jury to come back with first degree murder.

In the end, while Nina will never be able to live out her life, I think justice was served in this case.

Here is my original opinion of Hans Reiser back on November 7, 2007 when all I had to go by on Hans Reiser were a few small video clips.
