Here Steve Kardian, a retired aw enforcement officer, detective, sergeant and chief criminal investigator, talks about how to interview someone such as Jodi Arias.
Great interview, Steve!
I love when Jodi says, “I wasn’t…I wouldn’t even say I was jealous.” This statement by Jodi is a true admission as to the motive. She wasn’t jealous. She was mad, and couldn’t control Travis to ultimately date her and her alone (and I suspect marry her), and for that he paid the ultimate price!

I think this is a great video on a number of levels. First, the statistics about rape on college campuses is staggering, and from my own experience, I believe these numbers are realistic. Most people don’t realize the risks they take when going off to college. Young adults are in a new environment, exposed to alcohol at record levels, have freedom for the first time in their life, so it is not surprising boundaries are pushed and crossed sadly.
I can say that I remember my first college party, and I was so freaked out by the tension in the air that I left because I could feel the “rape” vibe. I kid you not. People were gyrating everywhere, guys were truly on the prowl for a good ending, the music was blaring, people were drinking past the point of good judgment and there was no where to turn if you needed help. I’ll never forget those frat boy faces! I remember thinking that this is not a safe place to be, and I promptly left. While I attended a lot of parties in college after that, none of them made me feel like that one did and I can’t articulate why. I just didn’t feel safe. But what did I do? I walked home alone down a dark road to escape it because no one else saw what I saw. Not so wise, either, but thankfully, I was fine, and so were my friends (who had more experience than I did)!
Second, I think this video is fascinating because we get to see victims talk about their crime, albeit brief, but watch their expressions. Are they what you would expect to see from a victim?
Steve Kardian is absolutely correct that woman will justify why they should not report a rape. Most women who I knew in college who found themselves in bad situations blamed themselves, or diminished the scenario so they didn’t have to deal with it, etc. They didn’t want to accept the reality that they were raped. That they became a victim. It’s not an easy thing to accept, and understandably so.
If you have a daughter going off to college this year, I would stress that you discuss this with her. She is in a high risk group for this problem, and education and knowledge are power.

I asked Steve Kardian to share his thoughts on the latest developments in the Terri Horman case [Terri offers money to kill Kaine]:
This new development answers a lot of questions that were raised last Thursday, when Desiree Young, with Kyron’s dad and her husband standing behind her, made an emotional plea to Terri Horman before television cameras — the family’s first public statements directed at Kyron’s stepmom since the boy disappeared a month ago.
Last week I mentioned that law enforcement would not share investigative findings, regarding Kryon, with the family unless there was a safety issue clearly identified. This was apparently the case.
Regarding the unidentified landscaper, law enforcement (LE) and the District Attorney’s office will need to corroborate the information the landscaper provided. Two complications are the fact that the landscaper did not come forward with this information when this originally happened six or seven months ago. Even a bad attorney will have a field day with this. Second, we do not know the credibility of the landscaper and or if he has an arrest record or any questionable dealings.
The fact that Terri has lawyered up has removed any opportunity for LE to solicit information or a confession from her.
This is a sensitive case, a national case and an emotional case. LE and the prosecutor have done a good job keeping this close to the vest and they will want to go forward gingerly and build a solid case should this all be true.

I asked Steve Kardian, a 30 year police sergeant, chief investigator and news correspondent what his thoughts are on the Kyron Horman case, since Desiree Young, Kyron’s biological mother, came forward saying Kyron is alive earlier this week.
Steve wrote:
Back in the early stages of the Caylee Anthony investigation, I spoke on CNN’s Prime News with Mike Galanos. Mike asked me if I thought there was any chance of finding Caylee alive. I responded “No Mike, I believe she’s dead!” I’m sad to say that in this case the probability that Kyron is going to be found alive is slim to none. In law enforcement we look at a number of things.
1. The 72 hour critical period has long passed. The more hours and days that pass give less positive hope.
2. Stereotypical stranger abductions are extremely rare. Less than 1/2 of 1 % of all childhood abductions that occur in the USA are stranger abductions.
3. In LE we look closely at those close to the child and we look even closer at the people that were last seen with the child.
4. Then there are so many indicators: her cell phone pings, the two lie detector tests, her reaction and body language, the divorce, the just cause for the order of protection. LE typically “WILL NOT” share information of their investigative findings with family members, however, they may, if just cause is present, inform a person (s) that they “may” be in danger!
Thanks, Steve!
I had the honor of meeting Steve recently and I must say he is an amazing man. If you ever look for a top-notch self-defense class, he is your guy!
